“Prior to the advent of the brain, there was no colour and no sound in the universe, nor was there any flavour or aroma and probably little sense and no feeling or emotion. Before brains, the universe was also free of pain and anxiety” – Roger Sperry
Do you struggle with your mental health? Are you frustrated by the lack of options you have access to? Dr. Sarah Roth, ND, explains:
The journey to find mental well-being is a long, winding and often unexpected road. We often think that our options are only medications and psychotherapy, and yet are often left with this inkling that there must be more. Why do we feel the way we do? Our minds are far too complex to be reduced to neurotransmitters and talk therapy. What about the influence of genetics, our environment, past traumas, hormones, and nutrients?
The only way to mental well-being is via addressing its two most fundamental aspects: the story and the biochemistry. The story part is the messy part, and it must be teased apart, examined, recalibrated, and then ultimately mastered. The biochemistry part involves assessing the role of specific genes, hormones, nutrients, neurochemicals and lifestyle factors and then selecting the best tools to optimize any imbalances. This is achieved via various lifestyle modifications, supplements and when applicable, medications and IV therapies.
My goal is to reset the body’s environment to serve as the foundation to achieve mental health. It’s a journey that takes courage and determination but is ultimately the only way to regain autonomy over our mental and emotional state.
